XADM: Exchange 2000 DomainPrep Setup Fails with Prerequisite Conditions Not Satisfied (260396)

SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup with the domainprep option in a child or grandchild domain, the installation may not work and you receive the following error message:
The component "Microsoft Exchange 2000" cannot be set to the action "DomainPrep" because the following prerequisite conditions are not satisfied:
- Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory
- Failed to obtain information about Microsoft Exchange organization objects from the Active Directory. Please verify that you have sufficient permissions to access them before running setup.

The component "Microsoft Exchange Domain Preparation" cannot be set to the action "DomainPrep" because the following prerequisite conditions are not satisfied:
- Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory
- Failed to obtain information about Microsoft Exchange organization objects from the Active Directory. Please verify that you have sufficient permissions to access them before running setup.

CAUSE

This problem is caused when the account you are using to run domainprep does not have the appropriate permission to view the Configuration container in Active Directory.

RESOLUTION

In Exchange System Manager, run the Delegation Wizard, and then grant the appropriate user or group the Exchange Full Administrator role.
