FIX: Compatibility Problems with the Redistribution Files in the Oleaut32.dll File (260051)

SYMPTOMS

Compatibility problems in OLE functions, such as file registering errors and language version conflicts, occur with the Oleaut32.dll file that is shipped with both the English (ENU) and the Japanese (JPN) versions of Microsoft Windows 2000.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there are critical compatibility problems with the Oleaut32.dll file that is shipped with Microsoft Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve compatibility problems with the Oleaut32.dll, install the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.
