Error Message: Missing Export Mapi32.dll:23 (259898)

SYMPTOMS

When you are trying to use a MAPI-aware program, such as Microsoft Fax, you may receive the following error messages:
C:\Windows\System\AWSNTO32.EXE - A device attached to the system is not functioning

The AWFXCG32.DLL file is linked to missing export MAPI32.DLL:23

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Mapi32.dll file that is required by Microsoft programs is replaced with a proprietary version by another MAPI program such as Netscape Messenger.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable Netscape Messenger as the exclusive MAPI program:
  1. Start Netscape Messenger.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  3. Click Mail and Newsgroups.
  4. Click to clear the Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications check box.
This method was applied with Netscape version 4.7. This method may apply to other versions of Netscape.
