ADsOpenObject("LDAP://RootDSE", ....) Call Generates Incorrect DNS Queries on the Network (259739)

SYMPTOMS

When ADsOpenObject("LDAP://RootDSE", ....) is called, invalid SRV queries are sent to the configured Domain Name System (DNS) server. These SRV queries contain the host names, and are invalid and should not be sent to network. This behavior does not cause any problems, but can generate extra network traffic.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
