This article was previously published under Q258779

SYMPTOMS

When you use Site Server 3.0 Search to crawl a Web site, if the Web site is using Site Server Membership and requires membership authentication, forms and cookie authentication cannot be used.

CAUSE

Site Server Search does not accept or support these authentication methods. However, you can use the following Membership authentication methods:
  • Anonymous
  • Basic
  • DPA
  • NTLM

WORKAROUND

If Site Server Search needs to perform a Web crawl to index the Web site and the entire Web site requires forms or cookie authentication, create a second Web site pointing to the same content, and use an authentication method that is supported.
