Cannot Clear the Cache on a DNS Server (257828)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to clear the Domain Name System (DNS) cache, you may receive the following error message:
The server cache cannot be cleared. DNS zone already exists in the directory service.
If you use the dnscmd /clearcache command, you may receive the following error message:
failed: status = 9718 (0x000025f6)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
