OL2000: Outlook Seems Slow When You Open Folders in Separate Windows (257402)

SYMPTOMS

When you open Outlook folders in separate windows, the performance and speed of Outlook may decrease. Outlook does not increase in speed even after the folders are closed. Performance only increases when the main Outlook window is minimized.

CAUSE

This is the way that Outlook is designed to manage memory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close the additional windows that are open, and then minimize the main Outlook window. When you maximize the Outlook window, Outlook performance and speed increases.

To open an Outlook folder in a separate window:
  1. On the View menu, click Folder List.
  2. On the Folder List, right-click the folder that you want to open, and then click Open in New Window.
