SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to delete an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) folder that contains one or more subfolders, Outlook Express does not delete the folder and displays the following error message:
Your folder could not be deleted: the IMAP server refused to delete it.
Clicking Details displays the following information:
The specified mailbox has inferiors and cannot be deleted.

WORKAROUND

Delete any subfolders before you attempt to delete an IMAP folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
