Enable Personalized Favorites Menu Feature Does Not Take Effect Immediately (257128)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q257128

SYMPTOMS

After you click to select or click to clear the Enable Personalized Favorites Menu check box on the Advanced tab of Internet Options, the setting does not take effect immediately. For example, after you click to select the Enable Personalized Favorites Menu check box and click OK, no menu items are demoted (hidden) in the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer.

CAUSE

This issue can occur for either of the following reasons:
  • Internet Explorer is still running.
  • No menu items have been demoted (hidden) yet.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart Internet Explorer. If infrequently-used menu commands or shortcuts are still not demoted after you restart Internet Explorer, you may need to wait for as much as a week or more for the item to be demoted.

MORE INFORMATION

The Personalized Favorites Menu feature adapts the Favorites menu in Internet Explorer to the way you work by displaying the Internet shortcuts you use most often and hiding those that you use less frequently. Note that the Enable Personalized Favorites Menu feature only applies to the Internet Explorer Favorites menu. It does not apply to the Favorites Explorer bar (which always displays all of your favorites) or the Favorites command on the Start menu. You can personalize the Favorites command on the Start menu in Windows 2000 if the Use Personalized Menus setting is selected in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties (this option is selected by default).
