This article was previously published under Q257061

SYMPTOMS

When you create a desktop shortcut to a Web page, right-click the shortcut, click Make available offline, and then click Cancel in the resulting Install on Demand dialog box for Mobile Offline Pack, you may find that when you try again to make the shortcut available offline, the Install on Demand dialog box no longer appears.

This may occur on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer upgraded from Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 with a minimal installation. This may also occur on a Microsoft Windows 95-based computer upgraded from Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 with a minimal installation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, restart the computer and again try to make the shortcut available for offline viewing, but this time install the Mobile Offline Pack when you receive the Install on Demand dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5.
