OFF2000: Error Message: Microsoft Office SR-1 Cannot Update Features That Use 'Run from Network' or 'Run from CD' Options (256866)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the Microsoft Office Service Release 1 (SR-1) update on your computer, you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Office SR-1 cannot update features that use 'Run from Network' or 'Run from CD' options. Network installs must be updated by the administrator. 'Run from CD' installs require the full SR-1 CD available from Microsoft Product Support.

CAUSE

You receive this error message when either of the following conditions is true:

All of the Office programs have been set to Run from Network or Run from CD.

-or-
The following options in Office Setup have been set to Run from Network or Run from CD:
- Microsoft Office
- Microsoft Outlook for Windows

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods appropriate to your situation.

Method 1: If You Are Running Office from a Network Server
