PUB2000: File Size Increases Unexpectedly When You Insert Picture (253973)

When you insert a picture into a Microsoft Publisher 2000 publication
as an embedded or a linked picture, the file size of the publication may
increase by an unexpected amount that is greater than the original file
size of the inserted picture.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the picture that you insert into the publication
uses a compressed file format.
Many common picture file formats, such as JPEG or TIFF, create highly
compressed picture files. However, the format that Publisher 2000 uses
to store embedded or linked pictures in publications is not compatible
with file compression.
As a result, when you insert a picture into a publication, the file size
of the picture that you inserted into the publication may be much larger
than the file size of the original compressed picture file.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000.
