PPT97: Presentation Conferencing Timings Are Ignored (253924)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q253924

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation as a presentation conference, and a series of slides contain slide transition and animation timings, PowerPoint ignores the timings for slide transitions, and the animation timings only work when you click the Advance Slide button.

Audience members can see the slides appear along with their animations and transitions. Then, when the presenter advances the slides, the slide is updated, and repeats animations and transitions.

CAUSE

Presentation conferencing for PowerPoint 97 is not designed to work with slide and animation timings on the presenter's side of the presentation conference. It is designed this way because of synchronization issues with audience machines over a large area network, or over the Internet using dial-up connections.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Disable Slide Transition and Animation Timings

To turn off the slide show settings that enable slide transitions and animations, follow these steps:
  1. On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
  2. Under Show type, click to select the Show without animation check box.
  3. Under Advance slides, click Manually.
  4. Click OK, and then save the presentation.

Method 2: Set All Timings to "On Mouse Click"

Set all slide transition and animation timings to On mouse click. This still allows the animations to work, but the presenter will need to initiate all these by clicking the mouse.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint 97.
