SYMPTOMS

If Exchange Server 5.5 is installed on a Windows 2000 domain controller (DC), and you try to establish a connection agreement with the Active Directory Connector (ADC), it may not work when connecting to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer. This occurs after you change the port number that LDAP uses on the server. You receive the following error message when you click Add on the From Exchange tab.
The credentials specified on the Connections tab are incorrect or do not have sufficient permissions to access the Exchange 5.5 Directory. Please ensure that the credentials are entered correctly and that sufficient permissions are granted in order to access the Exchange 5.5 Directory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue and establish a connection agreement, change the LDAP port on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer:
  1. In the Exchange Server Administrator program, locate and click the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
  2. Under the Exchange Server 5.5 computer, click Protocols.
  3. Click the LDAP protocol, and change the port number to 390.

    IMPORTANT: Click to clear the Use Site Defaults for all properties check box.
  4. Restart the Exchange Directory Service.
