SYMPTOMS

When you disconnect a Universal Serial Bus (USB) storage device (such as a removable disk drive) attached to the root hub, an external USB hub that is also attached to the root hub may be disabled, and may cause all devices connected to the external hub to be removed. Also, this problem tends to occur on faster computers, such as those running AMD Athlon processors (CPUs).

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.
