This article was previously published under Q250239

SYMPTOMS

If you use hardware profiles and you upgrade to Windows Millennium, your laptop computer may not change hardware profiles when it resumes from hibernation mode. Or your laptop may stop responding (hang) when you try to use it.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the computer's basic input/output system (BIOS) does not recognize that the computer has been taken from a docked state to an undocked state when the computer is in hibernation mode.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, remove your hardware profiles:
  1. Right-click My Computer, click Properties, and then click the Hardware Profiles tab.
  2. Click to select a hardware profile, and then click Delete. Continue this process until all hardware profiles are removed.NOTE: You cannot remove the Original Configuration hardware profile.

  3. Click OK, and then restart your computer.

To resolve this issue, contact your hardware manufacturer.
