SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to map a network drive, the box containing the drive letters does not have any letters available.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur of Symantec's Virtual Drive program (which simulates CD-ROMs) is installed on the computer. By default, this program creates the greatest number of virtual drives available. All the virtual drives created are visible in drive Z in My Computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Virtual Drive program to free up some of the virtual drives that are not being used. You can then map the network drive.
