256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

SUMMARY

The first time you send a duplex print job (when you print on both sides of the paper) from one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article to a printer that is not listed in the Windows registry, you are required to complete a five-step printer test. When you complete the test, your printer is listed in the Windows registry and is automatically configured for any future duplex print job. You are only prompted to complete this printer test the first time that you send a duplex print job to a non-registered printer. When the printer becomes listed in the Windows registry, you are no longer prompted to complete the printer test.

A problem may arise if you do not complete the printer test correctly. In this case, your printer may not be able to handle a duplex print job properly, because your incorrect responses to the printer test may have configured the printer incorrectly. The only way to resolve this issue is to complete the printer test again.

This article describes how to reactivate the printer test so that you can complete the printer test again and correctly enter the duplex print job information for any printer driver that may have been configured incorrectly.

NOTE: When you remove and then reinstall one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, Setup does not reset the printer test setting.
