SYMPTOMS

When you are using Internet Explorer with the Active Desktop, if you visit the Microsoft Web page at http://www.microsoft.com, click the All Products link, right-click Windows Family, and then click Properties, you may receive an "Access violation" error message in Mshtml.dll. This behavior may also occur with any of the drop-down menus on the Microsoft home page.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
