SYMPTOMS

When installing Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) 2.5 on a computer with Site Server 3.0 installed but without Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 2, the following error occurs:
Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 2 is not installed.

CAUSE

MCIS 2.5 checks for the Registry key for Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 2. If you have installed a service pack later than Site Server version 2, you have the necessary hotfixes to run MCIS 2.5 but do not have the Registry key noted in the "Workaround" section of this article.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

WORKAROUND

In order for you to be able to install MCIS 2.5, the Registry must be modified.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To modify the Registry, follow this procedure:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the following key in the registry:
       HKLM\Software\\microsoft\Site Server\3.0\Hotfix\Site Serve 3.0 Service Pack 2
  3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
       Value Name: Installed
       Data Type: REG_DWORD
       Value: 1

  4. Quit Registry Editor.
