SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Exchange Outlook Web Access (OWA) client, after you enter your logon credentials, you may receive the following error message and you cannot log on to the specified mailbox:
The page cannot be found.

CAUSE

Your logon name may contain parentheses (). Microsoft Windows 2000 allows logon names that contain characters that are not allowed in an SMTP address, such as the parentheses. OWA uses the SMTP proxy, which has the fully-qualified domain part to generate the mailbox name, so if your alias is "molly(tw)", for example, and your mailbox is in a Windows 2000 domain named "taiwan.microsoft.com," the SMTP proxy assigns the SMTP address of "mollytw@taiwan.microsoft.com," and your mailbox will be http://server/exchange/mollytw.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
