XCON: Loop Detection and Associated NDR Fail in Some Situations (247127)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q247127

SYMPTOMS

When you send mail to a distribution list (DL) where some members are set up in a forwarding loop, the loop is not detected. As a result, a non-delivery report (NDR) is not generated as required by the loop detection design.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, UserA and UserB are members of a single DL. UserA has set up a forwarding rule to UserB and UserB has set up a forwarding rule to UserA. When a message is sent to the DL, message looping occurs but is not detected. Consequently, no NDR is generated.
