MOD2000: MSDN Users and Access Workflow Designer (246667)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office 2000 Developer

This article was previously published under Q246667

SYMPTOMS

Customers who are using Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft SQL Server as part of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) are not able to install nor use Access Workflow Designer.

CAUSE

Access Workflow Designer for SQL Server, which ships as part of Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, uses SQL Server replication to enable offline functionality. SQL Server replication will only function if Windows NT Server 4.0 is installed using per-seat licensing mode. If Windows NT Server is installed using per-server licensing mode, the server component of the Access Workflow Designer for SQL Server cannot be installed. The MSDN subscription ships a Not for Resale (NFR) version of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server. Because the MSDN Professional and Universal subscriptions include the NFR versions of Windows NT Server 4.0, which forces the per-server installation option, the NFR Windows NT Server 4.0 cannot be used with the server component of the Access Workflow Designer for SQL Server.

RESOLUTION

Do not use the MSDN installations of these products. Install full retail copies of Windows NT and SQL Server with per seat licensing. You can then install and use Access Workflow Designer.
