FIX: SP1 Query Analyzer Reports an Illegal Operation and Exits on Windows 9x (246498)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the version of Query Analyzer that ships with Service Pack 1 on a Windows 95 or Windows 98 computer, Query Analyzer might exit with the following dialog box after attempting to perform queries that contain aggregate functions in the SELECT list and use GROUP BY, ORDER BY, and COMPUTE clauses:
Isqlw

This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program
vendor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
