This article was previously published under Q245948

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you change the percent complete of a task, you may see one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The duration of the task may change.
  • The percent complete may change to a different value than what you originally changed it to.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the following conditions are true:
  • You reduce or increase the percent complete on a task that has a percent complete greater than zero.

    -and-
  • The task has actual overtime work assigned to it.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, adjust the duration and the percent complete to the correct values.

To prevent this behavior from occurring in the future, make the task a fixed duration task type before you change the percent complete of the task. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Select the task for which you want to change the percent complete.
  2. On the Project menu, click Task Information.
  3. On the Advanced tab, in the Task type list, click Fixed Duration.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Change the percent complete for the task.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
