  • Microsoft Project 2000

This article was previously published under Q245859

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you copy or paste a field value in the Network Diagram view, you may experience either of the following symptoms:

Symptom 1: When you select a field and try to paste a value into it, the Paste command is unavailable.

Symptom 2: When you select a field and copy the field's value, Microsoft Project copies a picture of the Network Diagram instead of the value in the field.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you attempt to copy or paste a field value directly in the cell of a task box in the Network Diagram view.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the entry bar to copy or paste field values in the Network Diagram view. To do this, use the appropriate workaround for your situation.

NOTE: If the entry bar is not currently visible, click Options on the Tools menu, click the View tab, click to select the Entry bar check box, and then click OK.

Workaround for Symptom 1

  1. In the Network Diagram view, select the cell containing the field in which you want to paste the value.
  2. In the entry bar, select the value that you want the paste operation to overwrite.

NOTE: If the field is blank, just click in the entry bar.
  3. Paste the value.

Workaround for Symptom 2

  1. In the Network Diagram view, select the cell containing the field whose value you want to copy.
  2. In the entry bar, select the value that you want to copy.
  3. Copy the value.
