SUMMARY

When you back up a Windows Media Server in order to back up the station configuration, you must stop the Windows Media Services.

MORE INFORMATION

In Control Panel Services, stop the following services:
  • Windows Media Monitor Service
  • Windows Media Program Service
  • Windows Media Station Service
  • Windows Media Unicast Service
This ensures that the configuration database for the services is not in use and locked. If you do not stop the services, the Mdsas.mdb file will not be backed up, because it is in use. On Windows NT 4.0 this file is typically located in the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Server\ASDB directory. On Windows 2000 it is typically located in the C:\WINNT\System32\Windows Media\Server\ASDB directory.
