This article describes how to obtain Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) information from the System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe).

IMPORTANT: Note that Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) does not support modifying the BIOS. Because of this, you may need to contact the manufacturer of your computer or view the documentation that is included with your computer for information about how to modify your BIOS.

To obtain BIOS information using the System Information tool:

NOTE: This information is accurate only if you do not update or change the BIOS since you last ran Windows Setup. If you update or change the BIOS, you must install Windows again to update the information displayable in the System Information tool.

Windows Millennium Edition

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
  2. View the contents of the BIOS Version line in the System Summary box. This line contains your BIOS information.

Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.
  2. Click Windows Report Tool on the Tools menu.
  3. On the Options menu, click Collected Information.
  4. View the contents of the BIOS= line in the System settings to copy box. This line contains your BIOS information.
