Access Violation for DPA Authentication in Site Server (245547)

SYMPTOMS

When a client attempts to authenticate to a Web site that requires DPA authentication, an Access Violation occurs on the server with an error message similar the following:
0x77f91841 referenced memory at 0x000000014. The memory could not be read.

CAUSE

This violation will be caused if you have Infocomm.dll version 4.02.0729 or later.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server version 3.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Site Server 3.0. This problem was first corrected in Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 4.

MORE INFORMATION

This fix should only be installed on Windows NT 4.0 having Infocomm.dll with version 4.02.0729 or later. If the fix is installed on a computer with Infocomm.dll version prior to 4.02.0729 then it may cause a leakage in the private bytes pool of the inetinfo process.
