WD2000: Inserting File into Previously Mailed Document Inserts as Attachment (245324)

SYMPTOMS

After you send your document as an e-mail message, when you attempt to insert a new file into your document, the e-mail message header appears, and the inserted file is attached to a new e-mail message.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following appropriate for your situation:

Method 1: To Send a New Document Not Exhibiting This Problem

To send your document, point to Send To on the File menu and click either Mail Recipient (as Text) or Mail Recipient (as Attachment).

Method 2: To Correct an Existing Document Exhibiting This Problem

To correct your problem document, follow these steps:
  1. In a blank new Word document, click File on the Insert menu.
  2. In the Insert File dialog box, click the document that is exhibiting this problem and click Insert. The document text is inserted into the new document.
  3. On the File menu, click Save and save this new file using a different file name than the problem document.

    NOTE: After saving this new file, you can delete the problem document and then rename the new file to the old file name. If you need to send the document as an e-mail message, use "Method 1" as listed earlier in this article.
