Printers Folder May Hang if You Type an Incorrect URL in the Add Printer Wizard and Use Basic Authentication (244917)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect to an Internet print server by typing a URL in the Add Printer Wizard, if you type a URL with incorrect syntax followed by several successful connections to an Internet print server that uses Basic (clear text) authentication, the Printers folder on the server may stop responding (hang).

NOTE: An example of incorrect URL syntax is httl:// (or the use of one slash mark (/) or one "t" in the URL you typed).

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, stop and restart the spooler.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
