XIMS: Unable to View Topic Field When Creating Private Chat Room (244276)

SYMPTOMS

When a chat user elects to create a private chat room when connected to either a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 computer and an Exchange 2000 Chat server, the Topic field is not displayed when other chat users issue a "Chat Room List".

CAUSE

In accordance with Request for Comments (RFC) 1459, the only properties returned for a private chat room are the room name, the amount of active member connections, and the (Platform for Internet Content Selection) PICS rating.

RESOLUTION

To enable other users to view the topic of conversation within a user-created channel, the channel must not be marked as private during creation.
