Errors Occur with Source Control Integration When Adding a Project (244235)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to add a project to source control, you receive one of the following error messages:

In Visual InterDev:
Cannot establish source control for the Web application. The server does not have a source control system installed on it, or the user name is not recognized.
In FrontPage:
Server Error: There is a problem with source control integration on your server. Contact your web server Administrator.
When you check out a file in Visual InterDev, the following error message occurs:
Unable to check out the file 'File.htm'. Server Error: There is a problem with source control integration on your server. Contact your web server Administrator.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Network name for automatic user logon option is disabled. This option is required for use with Visual InterDev and FrontPage.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, perform the following steps:
  1. Click Start, and then point to Programs.
  2. Point to Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0, and then point to Microsoft Visual SourceSafe.
  3. Click Visual SourceSafe 6.0 Admin.
  4. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  5. On the General tab, click to check the Use Network name for automatic logon check box.
