Windows 98 May Stop Responding When Resuming from Suspend (243048)

If you remove the battery from a computer with an Advanced Power Management (APM) basic input/output system (BIOS) while your computer is suspended, the computer may not resume until you insert the battery into the computer again.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Apmbatt.sys component is not properly tracking the state of the battery that is in the slot.
RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, insert the battery into the computer again before you resume the computer from suspend.
