Age of Empires II: Cannot Name a Saved Game After a COM or LPT Port (242763)

SYMPTOMS

When you save a game in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and type the name of a communications (COM) port or a parallel (LPT) port, you receive the following error message:
That already file exists. Overwrite it?
If you click Yes, you receive the following error message:
The game could not be saved. Free some disk space, and then try again.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, do not type any of the following names when you save a game in Age of Empires II:
  • COM1
  • COM2
  • COM3
  • COM4
  • LPT1
  • LPT2
  • LPT3

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Age of Empires II: The Age ofKings.
