PRB: Unable to Find Server or Set Server into Correct Debugging State Automatically (242462)

SYMPTOMS

When starting the Visual InterDev 6.0 debugger you may receive the following error:
Unable to find server. Unable to set server into correct debugging state automatically. You may not be able to debug ASP pages. Do you want to continue launching the debugger?

CAUSE

The client machine from which you are debugging does not have all the components required for remote debugging.

RESOLUTION

Ensure that the client machine meets the following requirements for remote debugging:
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server or Workstation or Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Server or Professional
  • Visual InterDev 6.0 (Service Pack 3 or higher is required for Windows 2000)
  • Internet Information Server 4.0 or 5.0 or Personal Web Server 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0 Workstation
  • FrontPage Server Extensions version 3.0.2.1706 or greater (FrontPage Server Extensions 2000 is required for Windows 2000)
