OFF2000: Error Message: "Unable to launch FindFast.EXE" Starting Find Fast in Control Panel (242313)

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click the Find Fast icon in Control Panel, the following error message may appear:
Unable to launch FindFast.exe.

CAUSE

This error message may appear if all of the following are true:
  • You performed a custom installation of Office. -and-

  • You set the Find Fast Control Panel feature to Run from My Computer. -and-

  • You set the Find Fast Search Engine feature to Not Available.
NOTE: The Find Fast Control Panel feature is listed under the Office Tools feature, and the Find Fast Search Engine feature is listed user the Converters and Filters - Text Converters - Converters for Search Tools feature.

RESOLUTION

To prevent the above error, set the Find Fast Search Engine feature to Run from My Computer. To do this:
  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Double-click your Office 2000 product in the list of installed products.
  3. Click Add or Remove Features in the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box.
  4. Expand the Converters and Filters feature.
  5. Expand the Text Converters feature.
  6. Expand the Converters for Search Tools feature.
  7. Set the Find Fast Search Engine feature to Run from My Computer.
  8. Click Update Now.
