In Clip Gallery versions 3.0 and 4.0, the name of the category that you created is also used as a keyword for each clip in that category.

For example, if you have created a category called "Hobbies," each clip in the Hobbies category would have the keyword "Hobbies." This keyword is stored in the clip catalog. Clip Gallery Catalog List Tool uses the keyword from the catalog to recover the clips from the categories that you created.

Clip Gallery Catalog List Tool opens the catalogs which contain modified and user-created clips and categories from Clip Gallery versions 3.0 and 4.0, and displays the names of all of the categories in a small window. You can view the list of category names, or save the list to a file for future reference.

How to recover categories

For each name in the list shown by Catalog List Tool, create a new category of the same name in Clip Gallery 5.0, and then move the clips into this category. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Clip Gallery Catalog List Tool to see a list of categories that you created.
   
   For example: If you created a category called "Hobbies" in Clip Gallery 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0 with three clips in the category, "Hobbies" is missing from Clip Gallery 5.0 when you start Clip Gallery Catalog List Tool.
2. Start Clip Gallery 5.0. Click the New Category icon, type Hobbies for the category name, and then click OK.
3. To search for the missing clips, type the category name in the Search For Clips box, and press Enter.
   
   The three clips are displayed in Clip Gallery 5.0.
   
   NOTE: It is possible that other clips will appear, because clips in the Microsoft catalogs might also have the same keyword as the name of the category.
4. To move the clips to the new category, click the first clip that you want to move, press and hold the SHIFT key, and then click the last clip that you want to move.
   
   Click Add Clip To Favorites or Other. In the list, click to select the category, and click Add.
5. Verify the contents of the new category. Click All Categories, or press ALT+HOME to show the complete list of categories again. Click to select the category you created in step two to see the clips you moved there in step four. To make sure that your keywords are correct, right-click a clip, click Clip Properties, and then click the Keywords tab. The keywords you added in previous versions of Clip Gallery are in the list.
