PAUSE Key Disables NUM LOCK in Terminal Server Client in Windows 95/98 (242040)

SYMPTOMS

When you are running Terminal Server Client (Mstsc.exe) in Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98, pressing the PAUSE key twice after turning the NUM LOCK key on effectively turns the NUM LOCK key off.

This behavior does not occur when you are running Terminal Server Client in Windows NT.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

After using the PAUSE key twice, press NUM LOCK again to re-enable the numeric functions on the numeric keypad.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
