Cannot Activate NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing in Windows NT (241866)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft NetMeeting 3.01 for Windows NT 4.0

This article was previously published under Q241866

SYMPTOMS

When you click Exit NetMeeting and Activate Remote Desktop Sharing on the File menu in NetMeeting, a Remote Desktop Sharing icon appears on the taskbar, but Remote Desktop Sharing may not be activated. When you try to enable Remote Desktop Sharing from the icon, Remote Desktop Sharing may not be activated and the menu commands may not change.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Nmcom.dll file in the Program Files\NetMeeting or NetMeetingNT folder does not have correct the correct NTFS file system permissions. The System account must have at least Read permission on the Nmcom.dll file to enable Remote Desktop Sharing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the NTFS permissions on the Nmcom.dll file to allow the Everyone group or the System account to have at least Read permission.
