SYMPTOMS

When you activate a PivotTable in Microsoft Excel 97, and you click one of the buttons on the PivotTable toolbar, either nothing happens or you receive the following error message:
PivotTable is not valid.

CAUSE

This error message may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • The PivotTable was created in Excel 2000.

    -and-
  • The PivotTable was created using an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) database.
You are not able to perform any PivotTable functions on the PivotTables you created in Excel 2000 using an OLAP database as the source.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Excel 2000 provides the ability to work with data from OLAP data sources in your PivotTable. This functionality does not exist in earlier versions of Excel, and when you open a workbook with a PivotTable created from an OLAP data source, the PivotTable is read-only.
