PI: Unable to Find PictureArt Files by Using the Find Pictures Command (241491)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Picture It! without installing PictureArt to the hard disk, Picture It! is able to find PictureArt files when you use the Find Pictures command.

If you reinstall Picture It! and choose to install PictureArt to the hard disk, Picture It! may be unable to find PictureArt files when you use the Find Pictures command.

In addition, you may receive the following error message:
No matching items found.

CAUSE

When you reinstall Picture It! and choose to install PictureArt to the hard disk, Picture It! Setup incorrectly rewrites the value data of the Path1 value in the following Microsoft Windows registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Picture It!\Content\Catalogs

The drive letter of the hard disk may be misreported and the backslash (\) between "Microsoft Picture It!" and "Content" is missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove Picture It! and then reinstall both Picture It! and PictureArt:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Picture It! 2000.
  4. Click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Remove, and then click Next.
  7. Click Remove.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Picture It!, and then click Finish.
  9. Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer.
  10. Run Picture It! Setup again.
  11. Select the hard disk to which you want to install Picture It! and PictureArt, and then click Next.
  12. Click the Typical installation option, and then click Next.
  13. Click to select the PictureArt Cutouts and Backgrounds check box, and then click Next.
  14. Follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall Picture It!

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
