PUB 2000: Custom Crop Marks Are Printed Only on the Black Color Separation Page (241426)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for the color printing option you are using.

Spot Colors

To print custom crop marks on each color separation page when you are using the spot colors color printing option, you need to create a separate set of crop marks for each spot color.

NOTE: The following steps assume that you have already created your custom crop marks or inserted your crop marks picture into your publication, that your publication is configured to print spot colors, and that Trapping is enabled.

To print custom crop marks on each color separation page:

1. If you have inserted a crop marks graphic, continue to step two. If you have not inserted a crop marks graphic, follow these steps to convert your custom crop marks into a picture (this simplifies the formatting process):
   1. Press and hold down the CTRL key, click to select each of your crop marks, and then group them into one object.
   2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
   3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
   4. In the As box, click Picture, and then click OK.
2. Position the picture where you want it to be placed on the page.
3. On the Tools menu, point to Commercial Printing Tools, point to Trapping, and then click Per Object Trapping.
4. In the Setting column, set the trapping type to Overprint, and then click Close.
5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
6. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
   
   This pastes a duplicate copy of the crop marks picture into your publication.
7. Position the new picture so that it is perfectly aligned with the original picture.
   
   If you need to, you can use the Align Objects option on the Arrange menu to align the horizontal and vertical centers.
8. When the crop marks picture is correctly aligned, click to select the copied picture.
9. On the Format menu, click Recolor picture.
10. In the Color box, click the color square in the first column and third row to select the 100% Spot Color 1 color, and then click OK.
    
    If you have a second spot color defined, repeat steps 1-10 but click the color square in the first column and fifth row to select the 100% Spot Color 2 color.

Process Colors (CMYK)

NOTE: The following steps assume that you have already created your custom crop marks or inserted your crop marks picture into your publication, and that your publication is already configured to print CMYK color.

To print custom crop marks on each color separation page:

1. If you have inserted a crop marks graphic, continue to step two. If you have not inserted a crop marks graphic, follow these steps to convert your custom crop marks into a picture(this simplifies the formatting process):
   1. Press and hold down the CTRL key, click to select each of your crop marks, and then group them into one object.
   2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
   3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
   4. In the As box, click Picture, and then click OK.
2. Position the image exactly where you want it to be placed on the page.
3. On the Format menu, click Recolor picture.
4. Click the down arrow in the Color box, and then click More Colors.
5. In the Show colors area, click All colors.
6. In each of the following boxes, type 100:
   
   
   • Cyan
   • Magenta
   • Yellow
   • Black
7. Click OK, and then click OK again.

After you set each CMYK color to its maximum value, solid black crop marks are printed on each color separation page.
