Err Msg: The Procedure Entry Point GetVersionFromFileEx Could Not Be Located in the Dynamic Link Library Advpack.dll (241196)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01, you may receive the following error message:
The procedure entry point GetVersionFromFileEx could not be located in the dynamic link library Advpack.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if an incorrect version of the Advpack.dll file is installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To determine the version of the Advpack.dll file that is installed on your computer:
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type advpack.dll.
  3. In the Look in box, click Local hard drives, and then click Find Now.
  4. When the file is returned, right-click the file, click Properties, and then click Version.
    • The correct version of the Advpack.dll file is 4.72.2106.1 if Internet Explorer 4.01 version 4.72.2106.8 is installed on your computer.
    • The correct version of the Advpack.dll file is 4.80.0124.0 if Internet Explorer 4.01 with Service Pack 1 is installed on your computer.
    • The correct version of the Advpack.dll file is 4.72.3612.1700 if Internet Explorer 4.01 with Service Pack 2 is installed on your computer.

  6. Restart the computer, and then Install Internet Explorer.
