This article was previously published under Q240226 SYMPTOMS
Outlook only imports and exports a limited number of fields. When Outlook exports e-mail messages, the date fields are not included.
CAUSE
This is a limitation of the Export wizard.
WORKAROUND
In order to import e-mail date fields, you can use a database program solution.
Foxpro
For example, if you want to convert Outlook items to a Foxpro database file, you may find a Foxpro solution at the following Internet address:
There is a programming solution in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section titled, "How to use FoxPro to transfer your mail to a DBF?"
Access
If you want to convert Outlook items to a Microsoft Access 2000 .mdb file:
- Start Access, and open a new blank database.
- On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Import.
- In the File of type list, click to select Exchange(). If prompted, click to choose the correct profile.
- Click the MAPI folder, and then click Finish.
You should now have a new table, named for your chosen MAPI folder, that contains the appropriate date fields for the imported items. After this information is in Access, you can export it to any other format supported by access, such as an Excel file.
