SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint, the Office Assistant may not assist you in style checking even though the Office Assistant is turned on and the Check style check box is selected in the Options dialog box (click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Spelling and Style tab).

CAUSE

The Office Assistant does not assist by checking the style of your presentation unless the Using features more effectively check box is selected in the Office Assistant options.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior:
  1. Right-click the Office Assistant, and click Options on the shortcut menu.
  2. Click the Options tab of the Office Assistant dialog box.
  3. Under Show tips about, click to select the Using features more effectively check box, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, PowerPoint automatically checks your presentation for consistency and style, and marks problems on a slide with a light bulb. You can fix or ignore these errors and also change the elements for which PowerPoint checks. The light bulb is not available if you turn off the Office Assistant. To turn on the Assistant, click Show the Office Assistant on the Help menu.

To change the style options that PowerPoint checks for, click Change style checker options for all presentations in the list displayed by the Office Assistant. Set the options that you want on the Case and End Punctuation and Visual Clarity tabs. To reset the default settings, click Defaults on each tab.
