SUMMARY

To change all occurrences of a particular word from uppercase to lowercase letters (or vice versa), follow the appropriate procedure below.

Word 5.x, 6.x, 97, 98

  1. Select the first occurrence of the word.
  2. On the Format menu, click Change Case. Click the case option you want and then click OK.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. Click anywhere else in the document to cancel the selection.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Replace.
  6. In the Find What box, type the word you want to replace; uppercase and lowercase do not matter here.
  7. Click to place the insertion point in the Replace With box, and then click Clipboard Contents on the Special list.

    NOTE: For Word 97 for Windows and Word 98 Macintosh Edition, you may need to click the More button first.
  8. Make sure the Match Case check box is clear.
  9. Click Replace All.

Word 3.x, 4.0

  1. Select the first occurrence of the word.
  2. Make any necessary changes (replace capital letters with lowercase letters, reformat, and so on).
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. Click anywhere else in the document to cancel the selection.
  5. On the Search menu, click Change.
  6. In the Find What box, type the word you want to replace (case does not matter here).
  7. In the Change To box, type:

    ^c

    NOTE: Create the caret (^) by pressing SHIFT+6.
  8. Click Change All.
