Works 2000: Unexpected Formula Appears in Blank Cells of Loan Comparison Spreadsheet Template (239960)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Loan Comparison template in the Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet program, you may see these invalid formulas in the following cells:

E10: =IF(AND(E4,E6,E7),PMT(E4,(E6/12)/100,E11),"")
E14: =IF(E4,E4,"")
E15: =IF(E12,IF(E12-E4,E12*E7-E4,""),"")
E16: =IF(E15+E14,E15+E14,"")

The formulas reference cells that can contain no data.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the formulas were used in previous versions of the template and were not removed after the template was reformatted.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, delete the contents of cells E10, E14, E15, and E16 before using the template.

To delete the contents of a cell, follow these steps:

Right-click the cell containing the data that you want to delete.
On the shortcut menu, click Clear.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To open the Loan Comparison spreadsheet template, follow these steps:

Start the Works 2000 Task Launcher.
On the Programs tab, in the left pane, click Works Spreadsheet.
In the right pane, click Car loan worksheets.
Click Start.
Click Loan Comparison, and then click Finish.
