The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2000

This article was previously published under Q239958

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Excel cannot convert some of the cells. The total number of errors found is 87.
when you do the following:
  1. Use the Car loan worksheets in the Works Spreadsheet pane.
  2. Use the Loan Comparison template.
  3. Save the file as an Excel 97-2000 (*.xls) file type.
  4. Start Microsoft Excel 2000.
  5. Open your .xls file.
  6. Save the file in Excel as a WKS (1-2-3) (*.wks) file type.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Excel does not have an updated converter to successfully convert a recent version of a Works spreadsheet from an .xls file type back to a .wks file type.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, save the file as a Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls) file type instead of a WKS (1-2-3) (*.wks) file type.
  1. Start Microsoft Excel 2000.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Open dialog box, browse to select your Excel (.xls) file, and then click Open.
  4. On the File menu, click Save As.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, click Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls) in the Save as type box.
  6. In the File name box, type a file name, and then click Save.
