XADM: How to Use \\.\ Namespace to Gain Access to the Information Store (239743)

SUMMARY

In Exchange 2000 Server, you can obtain the directory listings of data that your information store contains from Windows Explorer or a command prompt. To gain access to your Exchange 2000 data from Windows Explorer, click drive M and locate your public folders.

You can also gain access to this information without using drive M by running directory commands from a command prompt.

To view information in your public folders from a command prompt:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type command.
  3. Type the following command (substituting your domain name):

    dir "\\.\BackOfficeStorage\server.microsoft.com\public folders"

  4. This command returns a list of all of the public folders that your server.microsoft.com namespace contains.
NOTE: You can also gain access to your mailboxes directly with this command, if you have sufficient mailbox permissions. A command for this is similar to the following:

dir "\\.\BackOfficeStorage\server.microsoft.com\mbx\someone"
